On a beautiful Saturday in July, the Metro Region held its summer show at the Black Forest Inn in Stanhope, NJ.  The Raritan River Region of the Cadillac and LaSalle Club was invited, making a great group of 53 people and 19 cars.  We presented three People’s Choice Awards for Full Classics®  with trophies the Metro Region used in the early 60s that had been donated by Bob and Sunny Turnquist and were adapted to this event.  Jeff Guss’ “new” 1941 Packard LeBaron, Berit and Bill Hirsch’s 1930 Packard Phaeton (Creamsicle) and Maureen and Bill Kay’s 1929 Packard Coupe were the recipients of the trophies.  At this show, we encourage people to bring any car of their choice.  Each year Joan and Sonny Abagnale bring a different car from their vast garage of great cars.  This year they brought a 1954 Chevrolet Convertible (NC) and were awarded a People’s Choice prize in the Antique category.  Three Cadillacs were chosen and were presented with trophies donated by the Raritan River Region.  Two of the winners were also Metro members, Beverly and Viktor Tkaczenko with their 1962 Cadillac Eldorado (NC) and Jo-Ellen and Mike Greene with their 1976 Cadillac Eldorado (NC).  The third trophy went to Jay Raskin with his 1956 Cadillac Convertible (NC).

Bob auctioned off a special bottle of wine donated by the Tkaczenkos and I gave a 20 question car quiz which was all great fun.  Joan and Sonny Abagnale had the most correct answers, each of them getting 18 right.  All this was after we had a fabulous buffet lunch containing several German specialties.  What makes this event so special is that the Black Forest Inn opens the restaurant only for our group and they outdo themselves with their graciousness and selection of fine food.  In addition to that, we had a great group of people with a wonderful display of cars.  It doesn’t get any better than that!
