The Annual Meeting, hosted by the Pacific
Northwest Region of the CCCA was held in Bellevue Washington on January 9th
to 13th 2008. There were some fabulous car collections
visited, important club meetings and much camaraderie among everyone
present. And most of all some of the west’s most beautiful cars were
shown at the Annual Grand Classic®.
The Metro Region was ably represented by
members stretching across the country. From John and BarbaraAnna
Kefalonitis of New Jersey, Dan Gernatt and Roseann Morgano
of New York, Bill Davis of West Virginia, Phil Guilhem of
Oklahoma, Bob and Sheila Joynt of Illinois, Bobbie’dine Rodda
of California and then back to the east again with new member, Bruce
Giguere of Maine. We wish a warm welcome to Bruce – he is the
director of the New England Region. I understand everyone had a marvelous
time at the meeting. The weather was predictably rainy, but that didn’t
dampen the spirits of the participants.
On Wednesday afternoon, January 9th,
the LeMay Collection was visited with dinner at Johnny’s Dock afterward.
Thursday morning was the Annual membership meeting where all the
committees gave their reports and the results of the election were read.
Chris Snyder and Phil Guilhem, incumbents, were relected and 4 new Board
members were installed. We are very proud that John Kefalonitis is now on
the Board, along with his running mates, Phil Doty, Al Kroemer and Rick
Zeiger. Congratulations to all. The club is in good hands. In the
afternoon more collections were viewed along with visiting the Museum of
Flight. Friday morning more meetings were held – the first being the
Board of Directors meeting where our new president, Sally Perkins was
officially installed. The Metro Region would like to congratulate Sally
and wish her much success in the next 2 years. The other meetings held
were Regional Relations and Regional Editors, after which 3 more car
collections were visited. There are some fabulous cars on the west coast
that we in the east rarely get to see, so it was a great privilege for
those present to have the opportunity to see so many wonderful
collections.
Thursday evening was the Regional Awards
Banquet, which was held amongst the Classics. What better place to honor
the regions than with our great cars? After dinner the awards were
presented. Although Metro did not take any first place awards, we did
very well with very stiff competition from the other regions. BarbaraAnna,
our new director, received citations for 3rd place for the
following awards: Steiner Grand Classic Award, Turnquist Award for Large
Region Publications and Non-Print Publications Award (website). Rick
Zeiger from Southern California was presented with the Cantore Award for
Regional Director and Aneice Lassiter of the Gold Coast Region won the
Classic Spirit Award. It was a grand evening enjoyed by everyone.
Friday morning the
judging commenced with the Classics on the show field, or I should say
show garage. A fashion show luncheon was held there were several technical
seminars to fill the day. The final Awards banquet was held in the
evening with speeches and awards given to the best in the classes. The
Warshawsky Best of Show Award was presented to Ed Rittenhouse for his 1933
Chrysler CL Imperial Convertible Roadster and the Distinguished Service
Award was given to Tom Goad for his great contributions to the Classic Car
Club of America. The Annual Meeting always passes so quickly and goodbyes
were said with promises to see one another soon again.
