The annual Spring Meet (May

sponsored by the New Jersey Region AACA was an outstanding success!

On
a picture perfect day, albeit cool for Florida, the Amelia Island Concours
d’Elegance celebrated its 13th year with the assemblage of 328
vehicles - a true “Field of Dreams.” At least 20 Metro members were
present on that Sunday, the 9th of March, either walking around
enjoying some of the best examples of automotive styles, or showing their
very fine Full Classics®. Early 20th century cars to muscle
cars, race cars, motorcycles and Classic Cars were all gracing the
fairways of the Golf Club of Amelia Island at Summer Beach and the grounds
of the Ritz Carlton Hotel. Beginning the show season, with people from
the north eagerly awaiting the chance to enjoy some early warm weather,
Bill Warner, Founder and Chairman, continues to provide one of the best
Concours shows in the country.
Seven wonderful
Classics owned by Metro members were on display at the Concours with
Sam and Emily Mann, not only winning Best in Class with their 1935
Duesenberg J Roadster, but also winning the coveted Best in Show award!
This magnificent car was originally purchased by Clark Gable and was
bodied by Rollston as a convertible coupe. It was then restyled by Bohman
& Schwartz of Pasadena, CA according to sketches suggested by Gable
himself. It was used by Gable during his courtship of Carole Lombard and
during their marriage, then abandoned by Gable after her untimely death in
1942. Congratulations Sam and Emily, on receiving high honors for your
marvelous car with a wonderfully romantic history.
Other Metro
members showing Classics were:
 |
Frank and
Milli Ricciardelli – 1932 Chrysler Imperial Convertible Sedan. |
 |
Joe and
Margie Cassini – 1938 Horch 853 Special Roadster. |
 |
Dave and
Linda Kane – 1937 Packard 1508 Convertible Sedan. |
 |
Ralph and
Adeline Marano – 1934 Packard LeBaron Speedster. |
 |
Ele Chesney
– 1928 Minerva AF Transformable Town Car. |
 |
Jim and
Marion Caldwell – 1926 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Convertible Sedan. |
|
