Our Current Issue - Winter 2010 |
|
A Message From Our Editor -
Fall has been
delightful – from cruising along the Canadian Maritime Provinces with my
sister, Barbara to enjoying several car events in weather that has finally
been better than the summer. Bob and I continually tweak the Adirondack
CARavan and are hopeful many more people will choose to join us. We are
confident it will be a fantastic tour. If you love the outdoors and enjoy
driving your Classic on beautiful, uncrowded roads, then this is the
CARavan for you. In the November 2009 issue of Hemmings Motor News,
an article appeared on “The High Peaks Scenic Byway” affirming the
beauties of the region and all it has to offer. This Byway is one of the
roads on which we will be traveling. Also, in the same vein, the New
York Times had an article in their travel section the end of October
on the Adirondacks. It is a beautiful area and once there, you will be as
hooked as I am.
This winter issue
of the Skyline is full of member news, concours events and a bit on
Hershey. Bob has more enticements for you in his CARavan Corner
and I have some very interesting photos in Metro Retro. Cape May is a
lovely town at the tip of New Jersey and I cover a wonderful weekend
there. Bill Schwartzberg sent in more treasures from his
photographic library and the Metro Region’s Annual Meeting is covered on a
day that was glorious. We introduce you to a new Miss Metro, we give you
more information on our cover car and Bob shows you the completed “Barn.”
Bayard Badenhausen relates more fascinating stories about his
Passion for Classic Cars and I tell you about Frank Lloyd Wright’s
automotive inspirations. Chris Wantuck continues with his
excellent technical articles, this time it’s a restoration project. The
Hershey Car Corral, the Monmouth County Concours and some classic memories
are also covered. Many thanks go to all our contributors and our
advertisers. I hope you enjoy this issue.
Bob and I wish you all a most wonderful holiday season!

Our Previous Issue - Fall 2009 |

A Message From Our Editor -
This has been a nice relaxing summer – very few hot days, but a little
more rain than I’d like. Bob and I have taken in some of the local
cruise-ins and had fun being the only Full Classic® in attendance. One
evening when we brought the 1940 Cadillac Convertible Sedan, people kept
returning to look at the car two and three times and always remarking how
beautiful it was. It wasn’t so much that it was more beautiful than the
others (even though I think so), but that they so rarely see cars from the
pre-war era, let alone a Full Classic. It proves the point that it is
necessary to get our cars out for people to see and have them thrill to
the elegance of Classic era vehicles as we do. It is for that reason we
have planned a Classic Car Parade and display in Lake Placid on the last
day of the Adirondack CARavan. The people of Lake Placid are very excited
about seeing our cars and it will be great fun showing them during our
stay. We hope you will join us for the excitement of our tour, driving on
the picturesque, mountain roads of northern New York State and enjoying
the Olympic village of Lake Placid.
I hope you enjoy this issue of the Skyline – we have 20
contributors who provide some very interesting news, great stories and fun
aspects concerning our hobby. We salute three members in Tributes,
Bob Skop, Ted Fuller and Bill Stuhlman, as well as two lovely ladies,
Jane Fahnestock and Heather Moir who have all had wonderful lives contributing
so much to the hobby. Dave Czirr, John Parker and Paul Sparks have sent
in some news and questions. Art Abrom has a fun tale, Greg Landrey shows
us a great addition to Winterthur and Jim Pearsall provides us with
information about a terrific CARavan from 48 years ago. Some local car
shows are covered as well as the Burn and Greenwich Concours events.
Metro’s visit to the fantastic collection of Art Sommers is related as
well as a story of Mascots and car details displayed. Bill Schwartzberg
has given us more great phots from the 50s and 60s. We also introduce
this month’s “Miss Metro” and we are treated to another chapter from
Bayard Badenhausen’s fascinating life with Classic Cars. Lastly,
Chris Wantuck gives us another interesting tech article and Bob Gluck
“entices”
you to join our
Autumn in the Adirondacks
CARavan.
We certainly
hope you plan on being part of the tour – a fantastic time is promised to
all! Sign up today – September 2010 will be here before you know it.
Have an
Awesome Autumn - we look forward to seeing you all soon!
